D-Link And Sharedband Partner To Deliver Faster, Reliable Broadband Link: http://bit.ly/JMNvT Article:

D-Link, a leading solutions provider of computer networking equipment for business and consumers, today announced a partnership agreement with Sharedband Technologies, LLC, of Seattle to distribute and market its innovative software to its North American business customers.

The Sharedband solution allows multiple broadband lines to be combined into a single, virtual broadband connection. It is designed to deliver faster upstream and downstream speeds while offering transparent failover in the event of an outage.

Sharedband's software will become part of D-Link's newest routers that are scheduled to start shipping in the first quarter of next year.

"D-Link is currently focused on helping customers store and distribute data within an office environment at greater speeds," said Will Brown, associate vice president of North American Sales, Service Provider Business Unit. "With today's announcement, we are extending that reach to helping businesses improve connectivity between the office and the Internet. D-Link's approach of partnering with innovative companies such as Sharedband is an ongoing trend to deliver timely solutions to real world problems."

Paul Evans, chief executive officer and founder of Sharedband, added:

"We are delighted to be working closely with one of the leading small-to-medium business (SMB) and enterprise networking vendors. With most broadband connections being considerably slower upstream than downstream, this asymmetry is increasingly becoming a bottleneck for businesses. Coupled with the rapid growth of VoIP, hosted applications/cloud services, off-site data backup and VPN usage, this problem will only worsen. In addition many businesses are becoming wholly reliant on their broadband connections so the ability to transparently combine low-cost broadband lines from diverse suppliers using D-Link equipment is an attractive option."

D-Link Managed Switches Receive IPv6 Ready Logo Phase 2 Certification

Add this article to:
D-Link Managed Switches Receive IPv6 Ready Logo Phase 2 Certification Link: http://bit.ly/JMNvT Article:

D-Link, the end-to-end networking solutions provider for consumer and business, today announced that the company's xStack® DGS-3400 series and DES-3528/52 series of managed switches received IPv6 Ready Core Logo Phase-2 certification from the IPv6 Forum.

Receiving the IPv6 Phase-2 Ready Logo signifies that xStack DGS-3400 series and DES-3528/52 series switches have satisfied all of the IPv6 Forum's compliance and interoperability requirements. Both of the switch series are not only IPv6 capable but are also interoperable with other standard-based products in a multi-vendor environment that support IPv6 functionality. This IPv6 Phase-2 ready certification also ensures that customers will save the cost of migrating to IPv6 devices.

According to the latest industry estimates (http://www.ipv6forum.com), the supply of new IPv4 addresses available from the regional Internet registries will run out in 2011. IPv6 fixes this problem by expanding the pool of available IP addresses by using 128-bit addresses. IPv6 also provides built-in security as well as network management and mobility enhancements. Therefore, the growing demand for IPv6 support from government agencies, educational institutions and corporate entities has become much stronger.

This certification further demonstrates how D-Link provides the highest possible level in interoperable and secure networking, while meeting the growing demand of IPv6-capable functionality from corporate entities and specific vertical markets.

The IPv6 Ready Logo series of tests were progressively enriched. Compared with Phase-1, the Phase-2 logo verifies optimum compliance because it expands more "core IPv6 protocols" tests and adds new extended test categories. The IPv6 Forum is a worldwide consortium, with a key focus on providing technical guidance for the deployment of IPv6. The IPv6 Ready Logo Program initiated by the IPv6 Forum is a conformance and interoperability testing program intended to increase user confidence by demonstrating that IPv6 is currently operational and ready to use.

Earlier this year, the D-Link DGS-3200 series and DGS-3600 series xStack Gigabit managed switches received IPv6 Ready Logo Phase-2 certification. D-Link is continuing to dedicate more of its resources and efforts to obtain IPv6 Ready Logo Phase-2 certification for a wider range of product lines and to support more IPv6 features.

"The launch of the IPv6 Phase-2 certified xStack DGS-3400 series and DES-3528/52 series switches is further proof of D-Link's commitment to providing our customers with best-of-breed technology applications to power up their network environment without incurring high costs," said AJ Wang, chief technology officer, D-Link. "These IPv6-enabled switches provide a secure network environment; specific vertical markets such as government and educational institutions could especially benefit from the attributes that IPv6 technology provides for secure data communications."

The D-Link xStack DGS-3400 series and DES-3528/52 series switches are the L2/L3 Gigabit solutions for business/enterprise and vertical markets. Both of these series offer rich manageability, robust security and high reliability functions. They provide current IPv4 networks with a simple migration path to IPv6 and protect your investment for future network upgrades when greater security and larger addressing are required. The IPv6 multicast host, the latest in protocol technology, enables maximum hardware performance.

D-Link Xtreme N All-in-One Storage Router Recognized as PC Magazine Editors' Choice

Add this article to:
D-Link Xtreme N All-in-One Storage Router Recognized as PC Magazine Editors' Choice Link: http://bit.ly/JMNvT Article:

D-Link, the end-to-end networking solutions provider for consumers and business, has received top industry recognition from PC Magazine for its Xtreme N® Storage Router (DIR-685), praising the unit as "digital convergence at its finest."

The DIR-685 is the industry's first all-in-one home network router that combines powerful 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity with network attached storage (NAS), USB device-sharing, digital photo frame, Internet content player, FTP server and Green technology in a sleek, compact desktop design.

PC Magazine, one of the oldest and most respected publications serving the computer industry, has awarded the DIR-685 its coveted "Editors' Choice" designation, calling the device "one cool piece of networking."

Praising the unit for "mixing three disparate technologies extremely well", magazine reviewer and networking expert Mario Morejon stated that the DIR-685 "isn't just your average router."

"D-Link is breaking new grounds with the design of the DIR-685, something the market is more than ready for (imagine a full-sized digital picture frame that doubles as router, NAS, and more...)," Morejon writes.

Describing the device as "stylish" and "surprisingly compact," he notes that, "D-Link provides a highly intuitive and graphical installation wizard on a CD that configures the router in three basic steps…there will be no surprises."

"The DIR-685 runs cool and yet it is quite compact for such a complex device. Feature wise, the DIR-685 won't disappoint the most demanding users, unless you're expecting full-blown TV," the review states. "D-Link packed many advanced features that expand the capability of the router beyond the usual firewalling and port management."

Regarding installing the optional 2.5 inch SATA drive, he notes, "All you need to do is insert a hard drive on the side slot and the DIR-685 does the rest. In the Web interface, there are options to format the drive, create folders and manage connections to the drive."

D-Link Switches Provide Reliable, Flexible Backbone for St. Joseph Mercy Hospital

Add this article to:
D-Link Switches Provide Reliable, Flexible Backbone for St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Link: http://bit.ly/JMNvT Article:

The sprawling St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, a 529-bed teaching hospital located on a 341-acre campus in Ann Arbor, Michigan was undergoing an expansion that required it to relocate its security command center.

Hospital administrators viewed this project as an opportunity to update the facility's somewhat aging security system to a single platform, an ambitious project that would allow security staff to monitor more than 200 cameras simultaneously and increase recording time from 14 days to six months.

The primary initiatives were to convert the existing analog security system to digital Internet Protocol (IP), replace coax cable wiring with fiber cable to enhance scalability, geographic reach and camera quality, add a redundant power supply with fail-over capabilities, improve management functions with a unified software solution, and expand bandwidth to facilitate increased video recording and storage.

At the helm of the project was Jerry Albrecht, engineering manager for D/A Central, a D-Link reseller located in Oak Park, MI, who was charged with staging the implementation, setting up a temporary system during the move, and then building out the security command center at the new location - a large-scale project that took two years to complete.

"We were looking for a flexible system that would allow us to add more storage, allow us to update software, and give the customer infinite expandability at a significant cost savings," Albrecht said. "Another factor was speed. I had worked with D-Link switches before and I knew they could get the job done."

Albrecht opted for a combination of 25 D-Link® xStack® Series Layer 2 switches - the DXS-3227 24-Port Gigabit Wireless-Ready Switch and the DXS-3250 48-Port Gigabit Wireless-Ready Switch - with redundant power supplies to serve as the backbone for the entire implementation because "they provided us with the flexibility to add more storage and update software."

"We needed an extremely secure redundant system, and that was the key reason for selecting these switches, for their stacking and fail-over capabilities. Hospitals operate 24/7 and we were seeking reliability," he said. "We also needed the port aggregation and spanning tree combo that these switches provide for the increased bandwidth to record all this video."

"With the old system, hospital security staff was only able to view nine cameras at one time. We now have a full command center with 128 camera feeds, and the local viewer can monitor 27 cameras at a time," Albrecht said. "The hospital security staff now is able to observe different areas of the hospital in a panoramic quad on a large video wall, making it easy to zero in for closer monitoring or if an incident occurs.

As for the speed, Albrecht noted, "The quality of the video camera performance has improved significantly -- so much so that the customer thought we installed new cameras."

More than 100 D-Link Computer Networking Products Now Available

Add this article to:
More than 100 D-Link Computer Networking Products Now Available Link: http://bit.ly/JMNvT Article:

As a result of Taiwan's accession to the World Trade Organization's Government Procurement Agreement and its recognition as a designated country under the Trade Agreements Act (TAA), more than 100 D-Link® computer networking products are now available for purchase by U.S. government agencies that purchase from D-Link resellers with U.S. Government Services Agency (GSA) Schedules.

Headquartered in Taiwan, D-Link manufactures many of its products there, which are in turn sold worldwide to consumers and businesses, including government agencies. D-Link products also are manufactured or assembled in other parts of the world.

The addition of Taiwan to the list of TAA designated countries creates opportunities for Taiwan-made products to be sold to the U.S. federal marketplace through D-Link's vast network of channel partner resellers with GSA Schedules. It also means that many of D-Link's products, including wireless and wired network switches, network storage and Internet Protocol (IP) cameras, are now compliant with the TAA. A selected number of D-Link's best-selling, fully managed business class xStack® switches became TAA-compliant in 2007.

The U.S. Trade Agreements Act (TAA) of 1979 statute implements numerous international trade agreements and other trade initiatives. TAA-compliant products must be manufactured or substantially transformed in the U.S. or designated countries to be eligible for U.S. government purchase.

"Many of our computer networking solutions are now successfully installed in government applications throughout the U.S.," said Nick Tidd, vice president of sales of D-Link Pan America and vice president of marketing for D-Link North America. "This further enhances our opportunities to expand our market share in the government sector, and gives our channel partners greater incentive to bring our high-quality, cost-effective solutions to their federal customers."

"We are very happy to see that Taiwan has become one of the designated international trade countries for the U.S. government," said Tony Tsao, CEO and president, D-Link Corporation. "We are confident that U.S. government customers will appreciate the value D-Link end-to-end networking solutions bring to their purchasing decisions."
